Diver Dan

Diver Dan Diver Dan was a series made for children. It debuted in 1960 and was produced over just nine months, in that short time 104 episodes were made.

Diver Dan was created by cartoonist J. Anthony (John) Ferlaine and made by Brian Cartoons.

The series centered around the adventures of a diver called Dan, who was always seen inside an old fashioned diving suit. Diver Dan was played by Frank Freda. The only other actor seen was Miss Minerva who was a beautiful mermaid queen. Unfortunately for Diver Dan, Miss Minerva always avoided being seen by him.

The rest of the cast were puppet sea creatures, who talked to both Diver Dan and Miss Minerva. Allen Swift provided many of their voices. The villains of the piece were Baron Barracuda, and his assistant Trigger. There were many other regular characters such as Skipper Kipper, Doc Sturgeon and Finley Haddock.

The lyrics of the opening theme are:
Below in the deep there's adventure and danger;
That's where you'll find Diver Dan!
The sights that he sees are surprising and stranger
Than ever you'll see on the land!

The show closed with the following lyrics
He moves among creatures
Of frightening features:
Flashing teeth, slashing jaws,
Flapping fins, snapping claws!
He protects and he saves
His friends under the waves;
That's where you'll find Diver Dan!

So please sit back and enjoy this true gem, that predates SpongeBob SquarePants by 40 years!
